The drive was easy to install, and already has the newest firmware TN01. No more "bluebirds" and no need for you to search for and install the new firmware. The drive is OEM, not retail, but does come with some software : LG Burning Tools, LG Power Tools, PowerDVD, Power Producer, YouCam, and Norton Internet Security trial.

I bought this bare bones DVD writer to replace a failed unit. It installed and operated without any issues on my Vista 64 bit system. The drive is quiet and fast. So far it has performed well for me.
It ships with driver software and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a bare bones no cables replacement drive.

Installation fast. Worked right away. What more could you want? Oh, quiet too. Better than the piece of junk we got from Dell. That one was a problem from the beginning...

DVD and CD burns come out reliably in this drive. Kprobe scans looked good with the Taiyo Yudens, and even the terrible Memorex media my friend bought fared pretty well.
No bluebirds on this drive. The firmware revision it came with has been updated past that.

I have had no issues with this drive works great. No bluebirds software with this drive. I do suggest it, I do however whish I could find a drive with a white faceplace to better match my case, not black or beigse.
