 The DVD decoder included = WinDVD did NOT work December 2, 2009

Hardware-wise the Toshiba USB DVD drive is just great. Just plug it in, and you'll be able to read CDs so you can install software to your Toshiba Netbook, for example, which is the main reason I needed to get a USB external drive. But if you want to play movies from DVD disks with your netbook, you'll need a decoder, and Toshiba has supplied WinDVD, which in my hands did NOT work. It installs, sort of; and it works, sort of; but it won't play a movie. You'll get various "protected media" messages; or it just won't find the title; or whatever; it's pathetic. So spend fifteen more bucks and order CyberLink PowerDVD SE. It's a little hard to find on the [...] website; they try to sell you a more expensive product, but the fifteen dollar version is all you need if you are running XP as I am. (I was aware that WinDVD had problems as suppied with the Toshiba external USB DVD drive, but I bought it anyway; perhaps this email will save everybody else the headache of trying to find out this fixit from ... from what, Customer Support? I don't think so; whoever publishes WinDVD [Corel?] is NOT going to recommend that you fix your problem by sending fifteen bucks to some other software outfit :--)))

Purchased to use with my Toshiba Mini netbook, and it works perfectly. We watch movies on the netbook when we are traveling. High recommend this accessory.

Thanks so much to the prior reviewer with the information about where the WINDVD serial number was located. It worked perfectly for me on my Toshiba netbook, and have watched several DVDs effortlessly. Definitely recommended.

The Toshiba PA3761U-1DV2 Portable/Slim USB SuperMulti DVD-Writer is exactly what I was searching for. I had previously tried another portable CD/DVD drive and found it to be cheaply constructed of plastic and had to send it back. This drive has some weight to it which proves it is made of high quality construction. Installation was a breeze. I attached the drive via two USB plugs and my mini netbook using Windows XP Home automatically recognized it. I inserted the CD installation disk. Patiently waited as it installed Adobe Acrobat and Burn.Now. I then stared installing WinDVD for DVD playback. Once the page came up to enter the serial number, I popped open the drive and type in the serial number found on the face of the installation CD. Close the drive back and hit next. It took awhile for the installation to complete but I had not errors or complications. I quickly tested the drive and popped in a movie. It immediately started and the picture was clear and vivid with no skipping or buffering.
Great value and highly recommended.

I purchased this last night and remembered what other reviewers said about the number being on the disk. I decided to write the number on the disk protector before installing and when I picked ou the protector, the number was on the back side of it at the top. I never needed to write it down...just wanted to share my experience.
