Great product August 16, 2009 Wayne (Union City, CA USA) 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
If you read independent benchmarks, you will find that it's one of the best out there. In my own tests, I found that it does what it should, and does it well. I haven't tested the lightscribe, but I have tested reading DVDs and CDs, and this drive is fast. I've also had no problems burning DVDs and CDs at high speeds. It does not have problems due to riplock even with the included firmware. In other words, you don't need to do anything special to get high performance.
Unless you need Blu-ray and HD DVD (which is often included with Blu-ray drives as a throw in and seems useless, but lets you buy HD DVD closeouts for $3) then this drive should have everything you need.
WOW!!! January 30, 2010 David 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This thing is FAST!! You may be able to find something even faster, but not for under $50. I've been burning CD's in under 60 seconds with this drive. That's probably the norm now, but before this I was stuck with a CD burner from the stone age. Setup was a snap, I didn't even need to install a driver. You will have to go to the lightscribe website ([...]) to get some (free) software, but it's not a driver, it's just for creating LightScribe labels. I haven't burned any DVDs yet, but I have done CDs and I've used LightScribe and they both work fantastically. The quality of burn for both is flawless.
P.S. Be aware that this is a SATA drive, not an IDE!
It doesn't come with any cables, but that was expected because it's a bulk product.
Simply The Best October 15, 2009 Tokyo Joe (Japan) 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
If you don't need Blue Ray this is a great drive. I tried the cheaper LG which burns well, but it constantly accessed the system not allowing sleep.
Perfect replacement drive January 27, 2010 pdxmcad (Beaverton, OR) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The drive works great. The one issue potential buyers should be aware of is that this is intended to be a replacement drive, so it doesn't come with any mounting brackets or burning software. This wasn't a problem for me since it was replacing an older drive which was starting to fail.
Light weight and FAST January 7, 2010 Thomas W. Klose (Evans, GA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I haven't been able to use the lightscribe feature yet, but this thing is surprisingly LIGHT. I had an old DVD-RW 8x in there before this, and compared to that this runs much faster. Even the open and close feature responds much quicker than my old one, so I was able to pop Windows 7 dvd in before it went past "Press any key to use DVD"
